2009-2010 NCAA Football BCS Bowl ProjectionsSEC, Big 12 and Pac-10 Programs Push for National Championship SpotsThis could be the seventh straight year a team from either the SEC, Big 12 or the Pac-10 will play for the BCS National Championship.
Last season Texas was shunned from the BCS game, and Big-12 rivals Oklahoma made the cut to play Florida. Many felt the Longhorns were cheated out of the berth by the controversial BCS system considering Texas had beaten Oklahoma earlier that season. However, the reality of it all was that the Longhorns' loss to Texas Tech late in the 2008 campaign was the spoiler. This year, Florida and Texas came out of the pre-season 25 ranked in the top two spots, and many believe that these two NCAA football powerhouses will meet in the 2010 BCS National Championship game, but what about Oregon, Alabama and the reigning Pac-10 kings USC Trojans? Is there any love for those programs NOT ranked one and two in the pre-season? Almost half the season is over, and we're starting to get a feel of how the BCS Bowl Series is going to shape up. Alabama has not skipped a beat from last season, and are continuing to roll over the competition. Virginia Tech and Oregon have come in as true dark horses in the BCS National Championship talks. What about Boise State and Cincinnati? They're both undefeated programs. Shouldn't they be in the mix too considering USC and Oregon have been mentioned and both Pac-10 teams are sporting one loss each? Unfortunately for all those Bear Cats and Broncos fans out there, the soft schedules they put together really don't boost them into the National Title picture, however, a BCS Bowl game is more likely. It's been a crazy and unpredictable season, so the only thing left to do is go with the flow and take this season for all it has to offer and produce a projection that matches said flow. The 2009-2010 BCS Bowl Set UpBig games in the Pac-10 will impact the face of the Bowl Series and give a fresh new look for this season. USC hosts Notre Dame on October 17th and this could be another blow to the Trojans. Both Fighting Irish quarterback Jimmy Clausen and coach Charlie Weisz want this game in a big way. Too much pressure is on the Trojans, so expect a close battle, and an Irish upset. Following that game, USC visits Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon to face the high-flying Oregon Ducks on October 31st. Pete Carroll has not won in Oregon, and the Ducks are fighters looking to fly off with the Pac-10 crown. This could put the final nail in the coffin for USC making a big splash for the National Championship. Florida in Command of the SECIn the SEC, Florida played their toughest game on their schedule on October 10th against LSU, beating the Tigers 13-3 in “Death Valley.” So, expect Florida to run the table the rest of the way, and Tim Tebow to keep his promise, yet again, and lead the Gators to an undefeated season. The gold mine is in the SEC West division. Alabama will face LSU on November 7th, and more than likely, the winner of that game will head to Georgia to play in the SEC Championship game. The edge goes to Alabama due to their unstoppable offense, and suffocating defense that has been shutting down their opponents on a weekly basis. Lastly, the Big-12 is looking more and more like it will be ruled by Texas this season. Oklahoma already has two losses, and will not be in a spot to play for the Big-12 Title. However, Oklahoma is in a spot to play spoiler for the Longhorns. All eyes will be on the Big-12 on October 17th as these two giants meet in an epic battle that could end Texas’ BCS Title dreams. Sorry to say, but there will be no Big-12 program in the BCS Championship this year. BCS Bowl Series Projection (Pre-BCS Standings)Orange BowlVirginia Tech vs. Penn State The ACC Champions host this bowl game and it’s looking like Virginia Tech will NOT be getting a BCS Championship berth, so they will play in the Orange Bowl for the third year in a row. Penn State will accept the bid as the Big Ten runner up. Fiesta BowlTexas vs. Boise State The Big-12 Champions headline this bowl, and that will be the Longhorns. A projected loss to Oklahoma and a solid stand by other programs will keep Texas out of the BCS Title game. Boise State will again settle for a Fiesta Bowl bid even with an undefeated season thanks to a weak schedule. Sugar BowlAlabama vs. TCU The team that loses the SEC Championship game will get a spot in the Sugar Bowl, and that will be Alabama. Many have picked Cincinnati to play here, but TCU are going to slide in to this bowl game from the Mountain West. The Horned Frogs are the new Utah Utes. Rose BowlUSC vs. Ohio State Here we go again. For the second time this season USC will play Ohio State. The Trojans will be the Pac-10 runner up, but will host the Rose Bowl for the fifth straight season, and are looking to win their fourth consecutive Rose Bowl. USC has not lost to a Big Ten program in this bowl game since 1989 against Michigan. BCS National ChampionshipFlorida vs. Oregon Yes. You’re reading this right. If all holds up and Oregon seals the deal on the Pac-10 title with a win against USC on October 31st, and a flurry of Big-12 and Big Ten upsets, this could very well happen. Texas could still have a chance, but, we’re going with the flow, remember. There's no doubt about it, Florida will be in this game after going undefeated the whole way and handing either Alabama or LSU a huge loss in the SEC Championship game.
