2009 NCAA Football BCS Prediction

A Breakdown of What the BCS Top 10 Will Look Like

Aug 31, 2009 Micheal Iaboni

Florida, Texas, and Oklahoma round out the BCS pre-season top three, but hold on a minute, there's a Trojan horse at the gate, and a (Nittany) lion on the prowl.

It’s understandable that Florida, Texas and Oklahoma are ranked in the top three this season based on their little BCS love triangle from last year, but, at the end of this 2009 season, fans may see something totally different.

Get the popcorn out because 2009 will provide more action, thrills, suspense and dramatics than ever before.

2009 NCAA BCS Top 10 Prediction:

10. Oklahoma State

Since Texas Tech is no longer in the picture with the departure of key players, The Cowboys will be the third party in the Big 12’s lover’s quarrel. Expect a possible upset on November 28th against rivals Oklahoma that pushes the Sooners out of the title hunt.

9. Ole Miss

This young team got an incredible confidence boost after defeating SEC powerhouse Florida last season and built off of that impressive win. However, the Rebels will more than likely be mauled by visiting LSU looking for revenge on November 21st that will cost them a shot for the SEC title, and a Sugar Bowl bid.

8. Virginia Tech

The Hokies look to continue their ACC dominance this season considering the lackluster competition within this sinking division. A mediocre schedule should allow Virginia Tech to run away with the ACC title.

7. LSU

Les Miles will have his Tigers back up and running again this season. After a dismal 2008 season, LSU must overcome their ghosts from last season. The Tigers have to use their tough schedule to their advantage this season, and gain big wins over Alabama, Ole Miss, and defending champions Florida if they expect to contend for a National Title bid.

6. Ohio State

After winning four straight Big Ten conference titles in a row (sharing two with Penn State), this season could be the end of the line for this powerhouse. With the departure of running back Chris “Beanie” Wells, a void in the backfield could cause a disruption on offense. The toughest part of Ohio State’s season is playing USC; who handled this Buckeye team easily last season 35-3, and a premiere battle on the road against Penn State.

5. Penn State

The resurrection of Joe Paterno is running wild around Beaver Stadium as the Nittany Lions have something to be excited for in 2009; a year where Penn State stands alone at the top of the Big Ten. QB Daryll Clark was arguably the best in the Big Ten in 2008, and should repeat his stellar numbers in 2009.

4. Oklahoma

Is it such an insane thought that Oklahoma ends up with a record of 9-3? 2008 Heisman Award winner Sam Bradford is arguably the best QB in the nation, and yes, their offense is going to be running on all cylinders, but the problem will be in their schedule. The Sooners open the season against BYU – a school from a conference looking to make a splash in the BCS, then a road game at Texas (in Dallas) and finish at home to Oklahoma State. There’s a lot of potential for disaster against hungry teams this year, which will more than likely put Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl.

3. USC

Welcome back Trojans. Yes, USC is going to miss QB Mark Sanchez, and the handful of departed seniors, but let's face it, Pete Carroll is the best NCAA Football coach of this decade. Unfortunately, key divisional loses could keep USC out of the National Title game, and spend their fifth straight year in Pasadena to host the Rose Bowl.

2. Texas

Mack Brown will use last year's BCS blunder that kept his Texas Longhorns out of the National Title game as motivation this season. QB Colt McCoy could very well win the Heisman Trophy if he leads his team to the National Title in 2009. This Texas team is going to rip through the Big Twelve schedule and finish at the top of the conference uncontested.

1. Florida

The NFL has Brady and Belichick, the NCAA has Tebow and Meyer. Coach Urban Meyer; the mastermind of the SEC takes his Florida Gators into the 2009 season as the top ranked school in the nation. Who's going to stop Tim Tebow and this Gator offense? Themselves. The Gators must remain humble and play week by week instead of trying to figure out who's potentially going to Georgia in December for the SEC title game. If they manage to contain themselves, this Florida team will easily contend for the 2009 BCS National Championship in Pasadena.
