University of Florida quarterback, Tim Tebow, is one of the greatest players in college football history, but is the media destroying his reputation?

Tim Tebow is a household name thanks to his sheer athletic ability and his off the field charity and humble personality. However, is the public tired of the media’s love affair with Tebow? Could the “in your face” media presentation of the star quarterback be a hindrance in the future?

Tim Tebow, Media Darling

When is enough quite simply…enough? The majority of college football fans honestly regard Tim Tebow as a class individual. Whether fans love or hate the Florida Gators, Tim Tebow is respected by the majority of college football fans, and many individuals view the quarterback as a role model for young people in today’s society.

It is hard pressed to find people who simply despise Tebow himself, but it’s not hard to find people who hate Tebow–because of the media.

How many times can sensible people stomach the media attention given to Tim Tebow? The mind set of many can play out like an old tired joke. Well, it was hilarious for the couple of times, but nauseating and annoying after a few months. One could easily say the media’s love affair with Tim Tebow has long sense taken on aspects of an old tired joke.

The detractors of the media’s love affair with the Florida stand-out have had more than enough. Whether consciously or sub-consciously, the public love for Tebow has actually become a negative.

Negative Attention, Tim Tebow

Fans that dislike the Florida Gators have certainly used the Tim Tebow media attention as fodder for numerous jokes and utter distain for the Florida program. Many overzealous fans that are not making jokes about the Florida quarterback, are simply eager for him to be injured or have a certain team of choice derail the Gators and Tebow.

At the end of the day fans will be fans, but like many suggest, the media plays a critical role in the “fame” of Tim Tebow.

The world of sports media is infamous for “flavor of the week” type selling to viewing audiences and fans. The Florida signal caller is a dream come true for many media types, and the “story” has been well documented. However, where is the line between Tim Tebow the man, and Tim Tebow media creation?

One can only hope that educated sports fans and well-informed people in general will not look down upon Tebow simply due to constant media attention.

Role Model, Media Responsibility

It is certainly newsworthy and respected to shed light on positive events and positive people, but like any other scenario, the same media types who have built-up Tim Tebow will most likely be the first ones to knock him off the pedestal.

People want to hear “feel good” stories and root for the “good guy,” but when a young person is looked down upon simply because of continuous media coverage, the public will speak. The media should take responsibility for the monster which they have created.
