Longhorns prove themselves as Number 1Texas Proves itself as the best team in college footballBeating Oklahoma was one thing but the destruction of the Missouri Tigers shows just how good the Texas Longhorns are.
Oklahoma, Missouri and Oklahoma State; Texas has beaten them all and beaten them with style. The Longhorns are for real, they are the number 1 team in the nation without a doubt. The Longhorns were underdogs at the start of this season. Oklahoma and Missouri were both ranked higher than Texas and they were supposed to be the powerhouses of the Big 12. Texas was not having any of that talk, they were coming off a so-so season where their quarterback, Colt McCoy, was not playing as well as he had. McCoy was ready to prove himself as the best quarterback in the game and Texas as the number 1 team in the nation. Longhorns take first victimThe Longhorns were not supposed to beat Oklahoma. The Sooners were number 1, they were the best, Sam Bradford was better the Colt McCoy and the Longhorns did not have a chance in the world. Those were the claims that the entire Texas team made into billboard material for the biggest game of their year. The Red-River Rivalry kicked off and suddenly Texas had a lot fewer dissenters than they did 20 minutes before the game. They were near perfect, and the Sooners were not ready for the Longhorns that ran onto the field. Texas got the job done quick and easily beating the then number 1 Sooners 45-35, they were on top of the Big 12 world. The next day all of the major College Football Polls had the Longhorns right on top, they were number 1, but three games versus highly ranked teams remained on their radar. Tigers Mauled; Cowboys come CloseTexas had passed its first major test, but the Number 3 Missouri Tigers were coming into Austin and that was not supposed to be an easy game for either team; Texas again, was not hearing it. They put up 35 unanswered points in the first half, Missouri did not have a chance. Texas would go on to completely obliterate the Tigers and were half-way through the four game slaughter-fest of highly ranked teams. Oklahoma State was next and Texas was ready. They were almost upset but the Longhorns prevailed without a blemish on their record and their quarterback Colt McCoy was now in the drivers seat of the Heisman race. Longhorns Last TestTexas is now 3 for 4 in their four-week battle with highly ranked teams, and Saturday will be their final test. If the Longhorns beat Texas Tech on Saturday, they will be on the fast track for Mack Brown's next National Title. It will not be easy, the Tech offense is explosive and the Tech defense is playing with passion. For the Longhorns to win they will need to play faster, stronger and better than they have in the past three games. This may be their hardest test yet, Tech has had time, time to see Texas where they struggled and where they had holes. This Tech team has a chance to become Mike Leach's best team ever, but he has to beat Mack Brown's Longhorns before he has that chance, and the Longhorns are not hearing any of it.
