Notre Dame According to Lou Holtz: 11 Wins?Notre Dame Prediction on College Football LiveLou Holtz is known as a pretty outlandish commentator to say the least. But what he said on ESPN's College Football Live on Saturday, August 23 was borderline insane.
Lou Holtz is a former Notre Dame coach who always seems to pick the teams he used to coach on ESPN on College Football Live, the popular NCAA football show. Notre Dame hasn't won a bowl game in 15 years yet Holtz somehow thinks the Fighting Irish are in for a remarkable football season in 2008. Holtz was asked among other things if Michigan will have more wins than the Irish this year. He picked Notre Dame to beat the Wolverines and also said he thinks Notre Dame will have an 11-win season. Lou Holtz Past Notre Dame PredictionsLou Holtz has been known to pick Notre Dame in bizarre situations on ESPN College Football Live in the past as well. It appears as if his homerism shines through above all else on ESPN and when the vivacious commentator gets going, he tends to say things without thinking them over very long and that could lead him to regret his predictions later on. To pick Notre Dame to win 8 games or so would be considered going out on a limb for the 2008 NCAA football season. But when Lou Holtz predicted them to win 11 games it just reeked of homerism. Second-year QB Jimmy Clausen returns for the Irish but the jury is still out on the former mega prospect for Notre Dame and the offensive line was brutal last year. The Irish even lost to mediocre teams like Navy and Purdue among others. The only decent win was against UCLA where the Bruins lost several QB's to injuries. Lou Holtz Makes Another Bad Prediction? While the Notre Dame prediction of 11 wins was bad enough by Lou Holtz on ESPN College Football Live, picking South Carolina as his sleeper team this NCAA football season was almost as bad. It's not as if South Carolina under Steve Spurrier with their good defense in the SEC doesn't have a chance, but it's just the cumulative effect of picking Notre Dame to win 11 games and the pick of South Carolina as a sleeper team, another team Lou Holtz used to coach, put together that makes Holtz lose credibility. Lou Holtz the AnalystLou Holtz needs to learn how to be more objective and not pick Notre Dame to win 11 games when they clearly have little chance of it because he's a professional on ESPN College Football Live now. He does make for interesting chatter in the NCAA football world with his wild college predictions, however.
