Oklahoma State Upset By Houston In Week Two

Case Keenum Leads Houston to a 45-35 Victory in Stillwater

Yet another ranked team was upset in 2009 as the #5 Oklahoma State Cowboys had their highly explosive offense shutdown by the unranked Houston Cougars in week two.

Forget the Zac Robinson and Dez Bryant show. It was definitely Houston's Case Keenum and Tyrone Carrier who were providing the fireworks, and running the show in Stillwater.

Houston came into Boone Pikens Stadium looking to avenge their beatdown from last season as a huge 15 point underdog, but Heisman candidate Case Keenum made it rain footballs all over the field in Stillwater, Oklahoma, as he lead the Houston Cougars to a stunning 45-35 upset victory.

This big Houston win gave coach Kevin Sumlin his first against a ranked team since 1984.

The Cougars started strong by tacking on 24 points in the first half, and limiting Oklahoma State's offense to only one touchdown and 170 total yards.

In the second half, Oklahoma State turned on the engines and stormed out of the gate with three straight touchdowns, one of which was a quality 82 yard punt return by the speedy Dez Bryant.

However, the Cowboys would be shutdown the rest of the way as they were without Kendall Hunter who left the game in the first half due to a leg injury. To make matters worse, Dez Bryant left in the fourth quarter as well, leaving the Cowboys without their key weapons.

Zac Robinson's Turnovers Hurt Cowboys

In the fourth quarter, Oklahoma State QB Zac Robinson fumbled a snap that ended a key comeback drive, and later in the quarter, Robinson had a pass intercepted, and returned for a 32 yard touchdown by Cougars' Jamal Robinson that sealed the deal for Houston's win.

Penalties Costly For Oklahoma State

The Cowboys' comback was stopped short as costly penalties and the inability to shutdown Houston QB Case Keenum were the key factors in the Cowboy's disasterous loss.

Oklahoma State commited 18 penalties for 162 yards, which seems to be a problem for this Cowboys squad. In week 1 against Georgia, Oklahoma State commited 15 penalties for 106 yards.

If they plan to hang with the big boys in the Big Twelve, Oklahoma State needs to work on staying disciplined for all four quarters or it will lead to their downfall.

Case Keenum A Strong Candidate for the Heisman Trophy

Keenum proved he is just as exciting and explosive as other quarterbacks in the nation. Tim Tebow, Colt McCoy, Sam Bradford were all finalists for the Heisman Trophy last year, and considering all three have returned for their senior year, would people again forget the name of Case Keenum?

After this huge win, and stellar performance, it's easy to say he's a definite candidate for the hardware.

Keenum torched the Oklahoma State defense, and dropped bombs all Saturday afternoon as he completed 32 of his 46 passes, and had 366 yards passing, one touchdown run, and three touchdown tosses.

Arguably one of the best quarterbacks in the nation, Case Keenum could be on that Heisman ballot if he can keep the offense as explosive as he did against Oklahoma State, and continue to be a solid leader for this young Houston Cougar team.

Who knows, with Sam Bradford on the shelf due to a shoulder injury he suffered in Oklahoma's upset loss to BYU, a lot of college football fans and NCAA elite may need a new QB to pay attention to, and Case Keenum is a shoo-in for that role.
