Oregon Upsets No.6 Cal in Week 4The Ducks Wrestle the Golden Bears Down 42-3 in Pac-10 WinAnother top 10 team fell as the Oregon Ducks managed to contain Heisman hopeful Jahvid Best and shut down the offensively heavy Cal Golden Bears in a huge Pac-10 upset.
Oh, how the mighty keep falling. For the second week in a row, a ranked team in the Pac-10 was upset by an unranked conference opponent. Last weekend the college football world was shocked when the then third-ranked USC Trojans were upset by the unranked Washington Huskies. This week, sixth-ranked Cal Golden Bears were given the shock of their season when they got dumped 42-3 by the soaring Oregon Ducks at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon. Ducks Offense Pounds Golden BearsOregon QB Jeremiah Masoli threw his first touchdown pass of the season in the first quarter of the game on a 26 yard pass to Ed Dickson that capped off a nine play, 65 yard drive. Masoli finished the day 20/25, 253 total passing yards, and three touchdown passes. TE Ed Dickson and RB LaMichael James contributed immensely to Oregon's offensive firestorm, much to the enjoyment of the home crowd at Autzen Stadium. Dickson was trapping the football like it was going out of style, catching 10 balls for 136 yards, and three touchdowns. Oregon's run game, lead by LaMichael James, blew by the Cal defense all afternoon. All the Golden Bears could do on Saturday was look at the back of his jersey while James ran for one touchdown, and 118 yards. The unmatched Oregon offense torched the Golden Bears with 491 yards of total offense. The Ducks were ranked last in total offense in the Pac-10 going into their game against Cal. Cal Mauled by Ducks DefenseThe Ducks defense put up a stone wall against Cal's RB Jahvid Best and completely shut down the Golden Bears offense. Best managed a measly 55 rush yards; a season low. Cal QB Kevin Riley had stellar performances in his first three games this season, but the pressure of the Ducks' defense proved to be too much for the junior quarterback. Riley posted his worst numbers of the season this week as he went 12/31 for a dismal 123 total passing yards. Oregon: The Streak BustersOregon's win against Cal snapped the Golden Bears three-game winning streak against the Ducks. Last week, the Ducks snapped Utah's 16-game winning streak that dated back to 2007. What's in Store for the Remainder of the Oregon Ducks' Season With the Ducks flying away with games, can they soar to the top of the Pac-10 and take the crown from the USC Trojans? Right now, USC is banged up, and will play against the mighty Ducks on October 31st in Oregon; a state where the Trojans have not won a game in three years. If the Ducks can continue to shut down high powered offenses, then you might see Oregon quacking down at the rest of the Pac-10 from the top of the mountain, and quite possibly a long shot for a spot in Pasadena for the National Championship in January.
