The UAB Blazers will face a very strong nonconference opponent this weekend in the Texas A&M Aggies.

This is the second of the Blazers’ back-to-back road games after losing at in-state rival Troy this past week.

UAB looks to have its hands full in this matchup, as they are now 2-13 on the road under head coach Neil Callaway. It also does not help that the Blazers are 8-40 against BCS teams, including losing ten straight by an average of 19 points per game.

The Aggies are the toughest opponent that UAB has faced up to this point in the season, and the Blazers are already 1-2, while Texas A&M is 2-0.

A&M leads the nation in total offense right now with 589.5 yards per game. Their quick-strike, no-huddle attack has looked great so far and it will likely look just as impressive as they face the Blazers, who are ranked 106 in defense.

Freshman wide receiver Uzoma Nwachukwu has quickly shown to be a big star for the future at Texas A&M. He was able to scored four touchdowns in the Aggies’ win last week over Utah State, which is a new A&M freshman record.

A&M quarterback Jerrod Johnson has put up great numbers in his first two games. He has thrown for six touchdowns and no picks. Of course the defenses are going to get a lot tougher as the season goes on.

The Aggies’ defense was not as impressive as their offense last week as they only beat Utah State 38-30. If they can improve on this then it will likely be a blow out, but if they play like last week then UAB may be able to score a lot of points on them.

UAB’s defense has also played terrible so far, but their offense has looked strong. The Blazers are led by quarterback Joe Webb, who is a big threat in the air and on the ground.

Webb has already thrown for five touchdowns and ran for another three, but his five interceptions are a big concern for the Blazers.

UAB and Texas A&M Both Have a Tough Season Ahead

A&M has a tough season coming up and future defenses will surely test its offense that leads the nation right now. After UAB, the Aggies have a tough game against Petrino’s Arkansas team. Arkansas will surely have a stronger defense than UAB, Utah State or New Mexico.

Oklahoma State, Texas and Oklahoma are also going to be very tough opponents for the Aggies. These games will likely keep Texas A&M out of the Big 12 championship.

UAB also has a tough season coming up that includes a game against Ole Miss, who is No. 4 in the AP poll right now.

The Blazers only victory so far has been against Rice, which was followed by a heartbreaking 35-33 loss to Southern Methodist.

This puts the Blazers at 1-1 against Conference USA opponents right now, but they have struggled in their first non-conference game and will likely do the same this week.

Aggies Win Big Over Blazers

Webb should play impressive against the Aggies, but A&M will still likely put up great numbers and outscore UAB. Neither team has a great defense, but A&M should be able to run and pass all over their opponent.

Johnson should be able to connect with Nwachukwu plenty against the weak defense of the Blazers. This is his final tune-up game before their test against Arkansas next week

The Aggies should win this contest impressively as UAB is yet to figure out how to adjust and repair its ailing defense.
